Does anyone else ever find themselves comparing your life to someone else's? What your house looks like, how cutely your kids are dressed, whether or not you can bake something fabulous that looks like it came from Martha Stewart magazine? For the most part I'm pretty content with my life, then doubts pop up and I look around and think,"wow, there is SO much you need to improve on!" I guess everyone from time to time does this. I think being an LDS woman though can be really difficult. There are so many gals who are great at sewing, mothering, housekeeping, cooking, that I can feel SO overwhelmed! It's great that we are always striving for perfection, but can't it go a little too far sometimes? One of the sweetest and wisest women who ever lived had this to say about this subject:
"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are.
As you create a home, don’t get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don’t dwell on your failures, but think about your successes. Have joy in your home. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Be grateful for the journey." ~Marjorie P. Hinckley

I dearly miss the Hinckleys..
I think the more we work on our spirituality the more we forget about having the cars, big house, nice clothes..etc But it is so hard to remind ourselves that beauty comes from within and we made a promise to remember the Savior in all we do. All of our talents should be used to help others not ourselves.
On that note..I think you truly are a beautiful person both inside and out!
Also, You should know I asked all my 4 year olds last Sunday. "Why is it important to tell others about Jesus Christ" Claire was the only one that could answer and said,"Because Jesus gave us our family and we want our friends to know that!"
I was so impressed.
Car-
I need that bracelet you have that's black with the flower.
I freakin love that thing!
thanks carrie... i know we have been talking about this. thanks for the reminder. i might need to copy this.
just love you.
xoxo.
So I loved reading that. We all need to be reminded not to compare ourselves to others and try and "be as good as them". But in the future, if you are ever feeling non-crafty enough or un-martha stewartish...come take a look at my home and you will feel better. The only thing I can successfully "make" is my bed! And seriously our "fancy" desserts are chocolate chip cookies from the pillsbury packages. :o)
Carrie,
I have to say that you are a wonderful Mommy! Don't dwell on the fact that you're not Martha. I'm not either. Far from it, in fact. :)
I hadn't heard that quote by Sister Hinckley before. I think I'm going to retype that and put it on my fridge to remind me of what's truly important. Yes, I'm enjoying painting and transforming my home, but I also need to remember to just stop sometimes and cuddle my kiddos. (which I do when not online)
Take care and don't beat yourself up. I once had a stake president speak at a women's conference and he said that he was concerned that too many of the sisters weren't attending the temple and/or renewing their temple recommends. He said that too many felt that because they weren't "perfect" yet, they weren't worthy to attend the temple. He said that if you're striving to live the commandments, trying your best to do what Heavenly Father wants, then that's good enough. So Carrie, my friend, you are good enough! :) I know that to be true. As true as I know the Church is true. You are one of the few golden people in my life. Don't ever forget that.
Love ya bud.
Thanks soo much for sharing that amazing quote- I really needed to hear that right now;) Your doing a terrific job- I always think about what a great Mom you are!!!!
I loved the quote, Carrie!! Sister Hinckley was spot-on. I'm excited for your up-coming bundle of joy...It's nice to stay in touch!!
